Excellent DVD player with great features. i had to get an adapter so it would hook up to my old tv but that was no problem. Even them, picture quality is great. Haven't connected to Netflix yet but instructions are clear so should be a piece of cake.

An error screen comes up with every DVD I try to watch and it cuts out the audio and so you can not watch the movie. I looked it up and everyone says to update which by the way only connects to internet through cable not wireless. After updating it still would show the error screen and not allow audio.

I was hunting for a new BluRay player (preferably a Sony) that could not only deliver streaming access to my growing Flixster/Ultraviolet library directly to my living room. If you're researching the subject, UltraViolet is SONY's answer to the crowded, on-demand video services like Flixter, Amazon Instant, VUDU, etc. Consumers use these online services to access the major studios' online movie libraries. The Blu-Ray (blue laser) specification is a SONY patent, so they have a natural (unfair?) advantage in both licencing titles (anything on Blu-Ray is partly theirs) and selling players. With ULTRAVIOLET (red, blue, ultraviolet... get it?) you buy a disc, redeem a coupon (if included) and gain on-demand access to those same titles from the 'cloud'. Thing is, as the dominant force behind the technology itself, SONY is naturally hesitant to push ULTRAVIOLET too hard to consumers lest they alienate their own customers (the studios and other player manufacturers). The result is that finding out about ULTRAVIOLET (mainly, how and where you can use it) can be very hit and miss. Enter SONY Blu_ray planers: Where the real trick becomes getting ULTRAVIOLET content into your living room: Mobile viewing (tablet, phone, etc.) is cool, but enjoying your new 'cloud' titles in full, home theater glory is what it's all really about. I bought BDP-BX110 as an upgrade to my 3-year old [Sony] BXP37 & BXP57 players. The 2012 models are still solid and working fine, but they do suffer from C-grade streaming (loading... yawn), an older clunkier interface and - mostly - outdated apps, the biggest and most obvious miss being access to ULTRAVIOLET! These are all great players, but it can be more than a little disappointing to see how little data Sony (and Sony players) provides in getting to Sony's own service! While the BX110 is a sweet player that features more audio and video apps, superior streaming picture quality (Netflix "Super HD" nears 1080 in color depth and blot-free blacks) AND performance (vastly improved streams stability), it certainly won't hold your hand down ULTRAVIOLET lane any better (or worse) than another player from, say Toshiba or Samsung. So what's an eager, just-bought-it, BX110 user to do once things are all set up and ready to go? Jump over to VUDU.com, is what. VUDU is the massive, Walmart-owned, Sony-licensed, big studio-sanctioned, new-release friendly rent or buy library whose recent ULTRAVIOLET partnership just made ULTRAVIOLET content that much easier to access. If you move fast, VUDU also has some great sign-up sweeteners (free and discounted titles) that can help you quickly grow your movie collection. My sign up took minutes, the BX100 verification took seconds and the fun is just beginning. What's more, VUDU's browser-based movie search functions are simply KILLER. Nothing like cutting a huge movie collection down to size by selecting GENRE, YEAR and ACTOR/ACTRESS is there? Time to quit this first-timer review, grab this (or any equally equipped) and let the home theater movie magic begin!Read full review
Seems to play movies fine, great overall player but seriously lacks Ethernet WIFI capabilities & honestly should have such options! Also only has 1 single audio out plug not 2 like most players which is a little tricky at 1st to switch modes on to and make functional on your home theater system

If you can't afford "cable", get a $20. "Free TV" Antennae, and a DVD player. Watch all broadcast shows free. I have 15 channels, watch all my favorite shows, commercials included, (some good - some not so good), but when I just can't find anything satisfying on the airwaves - I pop in a DVD, and leave the "advertising" behind. A match made in Heaven!
