This grinder is awesome. A bag of cracked corn can run as high as $20 here, and shell corn 3 bags for $20. So you can imagine the savings being able to grind your own corn for the chickens and ducks. I went through several blenders from resale shops before I bought this and I even got my 13 yr old boy to use it. It can grind a hopper full in a few minutes and that is enough for my 20 chickens/egg layers and 8 Rouen ducks (mallard).

The cast iron grinder was sent by the shipper without protective wrapping layer or box which would prevent damage during the shipment. Considering the fact that the grinder is relatively heavy, any drop to hard surface can cause the cast iron to break. This happened to my unit. The lack of predicting of predicting these consequences lies entirely on the shipper. BAD. My grinder ended up useless and was discarded. VERY BAD!

It's okay for farmers, but not for home use. The paint in the grinding wheels and auger rub off into the ground flour, that's paint and steel dust in your food. Okay for farm animals but not people. As for the quality, the grinding wheels need to be adjusted so close together to get a course and fine grind the the wheels are rubbing together on one side cause of imbalanced manufacturing. Also the knob and pin between the bearing and grinding wheel came loose cause low tolerance built parts, i had to rig it to stay in play by bending the pin at weird angles. The hopper does not stay on top, you have to hold it in place. So, paint and metal dust in your food, just leave it in the barn where it belongs.

The grinder is worth the money. The only problems are that the butterfly nuts will work loose and will have to be readjusted every few minutes. I used a piece of wire to hold them in place. And that the grain that your grinding will shoot out after grinding. I held my hand over it to keep the finished product from going everywhere except into the container you're grinding into. Maybe a piece of fabric would work? Thanks

I bought this to replace my 30 year old hand crank grinder. I used it for flour grinding. This will not make flour no mater how much you grind it. I was able to use the back grinding plate from this grinder to replace my old one and it worked. So you might be able to use this to fix an old grinder. For chopped grains this will work find. If you want to grind a mill or flour DO NOT BUY THIS GRINDER! You will be throwing your money away.
