Rare and original, 1890's Cast Iron, Horse Drawn Pumper / Fire Truck manufactured by the Harris Toy Company of Toledo, Ohio. This wonderful, Cast Iron Fire Engine / Pumper Wagon measures approx. 21” long overall by 7 1/2” tall (to the top of the boiler) by 4 1/2" wide across the horses. The original bell is attached under the driver's seat and the Wagon is drawn by a team of two, large galloping horses.
The Pumper includes a period but not original driver, and original second fireman at the rear. The horses are supported by a pair of central wheel and are of the "sprinting" type.
This very heavy, very attractive and very rare, Harris Cast Iron Fire Pumper Wagon is in very good condition. There are no crack, breaks, chips, or significant physical damage of any kind to the cast iron although the cross piece of the whiffletree is an old replacement as can be seen in the scans below. The team of horses retain 85% or more of their original paint with some paint chipping. The body of the Pumper may have an old gold wash overpaint but it is difficult to tell if this is just wear to the original paint or a repaint. We have included numerous scans below to give a good indication of the condition of the surface paint. The Toy retains its original bell but lacks the clapper.. Overall this rare and wonderful Harris Horse Drawn Fire Pumper displays nicely!!!
