Marantz Model Eighteen 18 Stereo Receiver with Working Scope 10b tuner 7T 15 amp:
$1000.00

Up for sale is one of the cleanest, most original Marantz Model 18 Receivers you will ever see. This is in amazing condition with 100 % lettering, including dial glass. Oscilloscope is working well as is all functions of this receiver. It has just had a thorough check up with DC offset, output bias, and Phono pre-amp section bias all set to factory specs. The Tuner on this model is one of the best tuners ever produced and has most of the circuitry of the 10B Marantz tuner. Model 18 is a fantastic bargain considering all of the technology it has. Serial # is 18-6452. These were only built from 1967 to 1970. The power transformer has a date code of 67-51. 51st week of 1967. Most of the potentiometers are dated 43rd week of 1967. (137-6743).
These are truly a thing of beauty inside and out. I included some of the pictures inside, mostly to show that this example has all Siemens coupling capacitors. The black / yellow caps on the phono and tone boards. These are the best caps to have in one of these and they exhibit no DC leakage. I went into this project thinking I would replace all of the electrolytic caps as this was stored for many years before being resurrected. But, everything including the 575 volt filter cap for the oscilloscope show no DC leakage and are working fine. Everything sounds and operates as it should.
The oscilloscope has an audio display function and it can really get to be psychedelic when in that mode and tracking an audio signal. Pics shown in FM tuning mode and in Audio display mode. The tuning can really be precisely set using the oscilloscope.
I also have a backup model 18 that I will offer to the winner of this listing before putting it up for sale. The backup has working oscilloscope and is also quite clean. Cleaner than most you will see. I have been using the backup as a tuner in my otherwise all tube main system. The backup has one bad output transistor and a bad pre-driver. It could easily be put back into full working condition, but I chose to just use it as a tuner.
Shipping weight is about 55 lbs. Actual unit weight is 46 lbs. Quite a well built beast! From the original Marantz literature:Description

With the exception of the cathode ray tube, the model eighteen is an all transistor receiver, based on the same advanced circuits used in the Marantz model 10B tuner, 7T solid state pre-amplifier and 15 solid state power amplifier.

It\'s circuitry includes 72 transistors and 76 diodes, a total of 149 solid state devices.

A tuner, pre-amplifier and power amplifier make up the three basic components mounted on a single chassis and sharing a common power supply.

Internal connections between these components have been designed to provide optimum performance from each component while retaining full flexibility.

The model eighteen allows the connection of two pairs of loudspeakers, headphones, a turntable and record changer, an additional tuner, a TV sound source, and two tape recorders for record, playback and tape copying functions.

It\'s flexibility will allow other connections to be made for special applications and it\'s performance is the equal of the finest separate component system of comparable power.

Update Cinco de mayo...May 5th. Adding anote about operating this Marantz Receiver during the past week. I havelistened to it for about 8 hours per day for the past week, and it isoperating flawlessly. I am astounded at the fidelity of this 1800 Receiver onall sources. I have listened mostly to FM, which I am receiving from about 60miles away. A great station that still plays vinyl. This really takes me backto the 70’s listening to this same station. It has that vintage sound like Ihaven’t heard in years.

It reallysounds more tube-like than solid state. The phono section is equally fantastic. Also some CD listening on a California Audio Labs player. Everything is veryengaging and non-fatiguing to listen to. Another real bonus is how good theheadphone output sounds. The headphone output can also be used to drive asubwoofer. I’ve been listening on Thiel PCS monitors.

Bottom lineis the new owner is in for a real treat. It sounds as good as it looks! Amazingthat this was $650 back in 1967. Equivalent to $4500 in today’s dollars (thatsame year a brand new Chevy Camaro was $2500.00). And as the first modelreceiver ever produced by Marantz it is an amazing piece of technology.

I have the owners manual and service manual on pdf that I will e-mail to the winning buyer. Good luck!
