The Process of Using A Still/things you might like to know:

Boil your grains and sugar to make your mash.

Cool mash and add yeast.

Siphon from still to primary fermenter.

Wait 3-14 days.

Rack/strain your mash into the still.

Heat still and cook SLOWLY. I said SLOWLY!

Temperature matters. Less than 180 can be methanol. Between 180 and 195 are called the heads. Between 195 and 210 is the mids. This is your 120 proof product. From 210 to 225 is your tails. More than 225 is just water vapor.

THROW AWAY EVERYTHING COOKED BELOW 180 degrees.

Collect the alcohol until you get to 225ishor the product coming out has no alcohol.

If you collect with smaller jars you can go by taste it (will be harsh).

Save the tails for your next run, and put them in your thumper just before your next run. This will increase the proof of your next run.

Store your alcohol in glass or wood barrels NOT plastic!

Common questions

Do I have to heat the thumper?

**This still has a thumper between the still and the condenser. You do not need to heat the thumper. It will be heated from the steam coming from the still.

What is a thumper used for?

**Thumpers allowtwo distillations in one run, saving time and energy. They also help clean the vapor and increase the proof of your final product.

Do I need to solder?

** No you Do not solder your pots together with the connecting pipes! They come apart on purpose for cleaning!

How much can a still produce?

Unfortunately there\'s no way to answer this. It depends upon your mash. How much heat you use. And to many other valuables.

What else can I use a still for?

Depending on what you use as ingredients, you can produce different products. For example:

1. Brandy: use grapes or wine.

2. Whisky: use barley and wheat.

3. Rum: use sugar or molasses.

4. Gin: use barley, malt or wheat.

5. Tequila: use maguey.

6. Vodka: use wheat, rye or potatoes.

7. Moonshine: use corn and sugar

8. Water : if the Apocalypse is coming you can clean your water.

Missouri Moonshine LawsIs it legal to own a non-alcohol producing still (for water purification, etc.)?

If you want to brew alcoholic beverages for personal or family use, you need to obtain a permit from the state authorities.

Minnesota Moonshine LawsIs it legal to own a non-alcohol producing still (for water purification, etc.?

• Yes, but it is a question of evidence and the surrounding facts. 2013 Minnesota Statute Section 340A.705 provides that “The finding of an unauthorized still is prima facie evidence of possession for the purpose of unlawful manufacture of alcoholic beverages”. Therefore, if substantial evidence could be shown that the still was designed and used only for water purification, or some other non-alcohol purpose, it’s possible that prosecution could be avoided.

• Can still be seized? Yes. 2013 Minnesota Statutes Section340A.904(1) provides that “Contingent on the final determination of any action pending in a court, the commissioner shall dispose of alcoholic beverages, material, apparatus, or vehicle seized by inspectors or employees of the department by: (1) delivering alcoholic beverages to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension or State Patrol for use in chemical testing programs; (2) delivering on written requests of the commissioner of administration any material, apparatus, or vehicle for use by a state department; (3) selling intoxicating liquor to licensed retailers within the state; (4) selling any material, apparatus, or vehicle; (5) destroying alcoholic beverages or contraband articles that have no lawful use; or (6) donation to a charity registered under section 309.52”.

However Section 340A.702(3) provides that “It is a gross misdemeanor: …. (3) to violate the provisions of sections 340A.301 to 340A.312” (which refers to manufacturing or selling illegally produced liquor). Therefore, these two statutes are conflicting.

1.Is owning a still legal?Illinois

No. Illinois statute,235 IL 5/Article 10 Section 10.8states that any still or other property designed to manufacture liquor must be confiscated. Accordingly, you cannot operate moonshine still at home for making small quantities of moonshine, nor can you own the machinery designed to carry out the procedure. You can only manufacture distilled alcohol on a commercial scale with a Distiller’s License, in a building other than a residence.

1.Is owning a still legal?Michigan

Owning a still is legal in the state of Michigan. If the owner wants to use the still and brew wyne or bier through moonshine for personal and family use, then he is exempt from the law of the state. However, for producing distilled alcohol at a personal still, the owner needs to get a license from the state authorities. Under27 US code section 203 and Rule 436.1033 of the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, it is strictly prohibited for an owner of a still to produce alcoholic beverages by distillation or even sell them without a basic permit.

Indiana Moonshine LawsIndiana

Yes

If not legal: Indiana Code (IC) 7.1-5-6-1 provides that “It is a Class C misdemeanor for a person to knowingly own, have in his possession or under his control, or use a still or distilling apparatus for the manufacture of liquor, except as otherwise provided in this title”. As in other states these statutes are aimed at still and related equipment used for the manufacture of alcohol, so it’s a question of evidence. If it can be shown that the still is not, nor has it ever been, used for the manufacture of alcohol, the still should not be illegal. There are statutes for the seizure of still and related equipment, so the still could be subject to seizure and the user would have to present evidence that no alcohol production was involved.

Is it legal to own a non-alcohol producing still (for water purification, etc.)?

• No, but it is a question of the surrounding facts. Kentucky Revised Statute Section 244.170 provides that “No person shall buy, bargain, sell, loan, own, possess or knowingly transport any apparatus designed for the unlawful manufacture of alcoholic beverages”. Therefore, the argument that a still is ‘designed’ to manufacture alcohol is an easy one for authorities to make. If substantial evidence could be shown that the still was designed and used only for water purification, or some other purpose, it’s possible that prosecution could be avoided, but it may be difficult given the way that the statute is written.

If the state authorities find certain toxins or poisonous elements in your alcohol, you will be charged for misdemeanor.

1. Is owning a moonshine still legal?Virginia

A still can be owned but a distillers license is required to do so.§ 4.1-300 ofTitle 4.1 – ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE CONTROL ACT(Code of Virginia)states that the manufacturing of alcohol unless a license is acquired is illegal. It is a Class 6 misdemeanor to produce illegal moonshine without a license. However, bier and wyne can be manufactured without a license for domestic use only as stated in§ 4.1-200.

• 4.1-206 (a)states that a distiller’s license will allow the licensee to distill alcoholic beverages other than wyne or bier.

1.

Adherence with federal law is also necessary as well as federal licenses.

1. Is domestic production of moonshine illegal?

Yes it is. In fact the code of TABC states:

“The head of a family or an unmarried adult may produce for the use of his family or himself not more than 200 gallons of wyne, bier, malt liquor, or ale, per year. No permit or license is required.” (Sec. 109.21 (a))

Hence, liquor or bier can be produced legally without a license BUT a federal permit is required to fulfill federal moonshine laws. Furthermore, it is important to note that distilling moonshine is not legal or any method which increases the ethanol content to as stated inSec. 109.21(b).

No official forms or fee is required for manufacturing bier/wyne up for home made use for up to 200 gallons per 2 adult household.

In order to manufacture moonshine more than 200 gallons or through distillation, a commercial permit has to be obtained which subjects a person to taxes and fees. There are different types of permits that can be obtained. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage commission allows registration and renewal of licenseonline.

if you do not see your state and want to know more I can try to find it for you. thank you for looking.
