this is probably one of the finest rulers you are ever likely to find, most probably a specially commissioned one off piece. could have even been owned by royalty, or maybe famous architect, military leader, not sure what it would have been used for as it has different scales on measurements, it measures 8\" long, and just below 2\" wide. it has a large letter S in the centre, maybe the owners or makers initial, may even represent a famous battle if it had been used on military maps during a war, or initial of a famous house it was used in architects drawings, this really does need further research, it has a carved ox bone piece with amazing carved lions at each end, good grain lines showing in the bone, also some hairlines or stress lines which will probably clean up well as its in dirty untouched condition. its a very well made heavy piece. should really be in a museum. im sure you wont find a better one, surely a very important example. it came with more rare pieces ill be listing. the base has a green felt covering.
