The Matsushita National (Panasonic) SPT-501 is an extension speaker designed to look like a flying saucer. It sits on three brass legs, and thesound is projected out of the bottom of the unit.Very groovy baby. The unit hasMatsushita Electric\'s old pre-Panasonic \"National\" emblem, so I would date this examplefrom the mid1960s.The unit operates by plugging it into the earphone jack of a transistor radio; turnon the radio, and the sound is projected through the extension speaker. The speaker plug is designed for National/Matsushita earphone jacks, but will work with most early transistor radios though might require pulling the plug out a bit.The NationalSPT-501 is featured in a number of websites devoted to classic transistor radios, including:[link removed by ].
This example is in very nice cosmetic condition, with the only detractors being some light scratches on the bottom. The top is very nice and free of cracks or chips. There is a nick in the red plasticof the plug cover. I plugged the unit into the earphone jack of a powered transistor radio, and after pulling the plug out a bit got strong sound from the speaker.
