Condition, condition, condition -- the "3 C's" of Collectibility. Well, I think I've nailed every C this week, so make sure to check out my other listings after you look at this one. You'll find more than a half dozen mechanical, technological and musical antiques on the block, all of them in outstanding condition, and several of them being offered with their original boxes.
Here's an exceptionally nice, complete (and wonderfully compact) Lancaster Le Merveilleux quarter-plate camera manufactured in England about 130 years ago. The Le Merveilleux was Lancaster's smallest quarter plate cameras, yet despite its size, its build quality is outstanding. When folded shut, the camera measures just 5 1/2" x 6 1/2" by 3. The camera comes with two original Lancaster double-slide plate holders, both of which have their mother-of-pearl shields intact. As you can see in the photographs, the condition of the camera is outstanding. The mahogany body retains its original finish, which is still as smooth as satin, and the bellows are still supple -- with no mis-folds -- and appear to be light tight. Both original celluloid ID plaques are still intact, as is the inlaid MOP shield. Lens is clear and throws a sharp reverse image against the focusing plate. Aperture ring turns easily. Brass fittings retain their original lacquer, and the patina on all the brass parts is excellent. No fittings are missing, and no fittings are incorrect. Camera opens easily, closes easily, and looks beautiful from any angle.
A very fine early Lancaster camera. Shipping weight will be about 4 lb.That's about it. I will pack it carefully and properly. sale participants with no prior response history or with hidden response should contact me before placing a offer. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
