Near Mint 1932 Emerson 25 Radio In Rare Original Velvet-Lined Salesman\'s Case For Sale

I\'m closing out July with one of the best line-ups of mechanical, technological and musical antiques I\'ve had the pleasure of offering in a single week in the 20 years I\'ve been on . Even if you\'re only a casual collector, I suspect there will be something of interest to you.Here\'s a 1932 Emerson Model 25 radio, one of the most beautiful mantle radios ever made. The set comes from the collection of renowned radio historian Alan Scott Douglas, and it\'s housed in an exceedingly rare, all-original, velvet-lined pigskin carrying case. These cases were originally manufactured for the company\'s traveling sales representatives, but they were later offered by Saks Fifth Avenue as a $10 option (about a third the price of the radio itself) to retail customers. Condition is essentially mint, as you can see in the photographs. A few scattered and very minor marks in the finish from occasional handling, but otherwise pristine throughout. The chassis and back are likewise almost like new. The line cord has not been terminated with a plug, and the radio -- 85 years old and un-restored -- will will no doubt need to be updated electrically before it can be used. The carrying case exhibits exterior wear in areas, but overall its condition is quite good, and none of the leather covering is dried out or damaged.The radio and case are being sold for historical purposes only.The radio\'s (closed, with the radio inside) measures approximately 12\" wide by 8\" high by 6\" deep.
