Here we have a rare 1936 Goodyear Wings model 686A table top tube radio. The set was manufactured by Belmont Radio Corp. for Goodyear Rubber and Tire Co. In the 1930\'s and 40\'s it was common practice for radio manufacturers to produce radios for non-radio related companies. These companies would then attach their own name and/or logo and offer them for sale on their showroom floors. This was a great marketing ploy. Since these radios were not mass produced in the quantities as other major radio manufacturers, they are very hard to come by. If you are lucky enough to come across one of these sets today, you will instantly notice the craftsmanship, unique details and performance is second to none. As is the case with this beauty that features a gorgeous American Walnut cabinet, waterfall top, bright and colorful back lit dial, great Art Deco appeal, vernier tuning, and outstanding performance on both the AM broadcast and shortwave bands.

Cabinet:The American Walnut cabinet is simply gorgeous. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set. The waterfall top, coupled with the solid walnut tiered sides, reminds you of the elegant designs so popular from the era. A large Art Deco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the speaker. As if the radio isn\'t stunning enough, just power this beauty on and the bright back lit dial comes to life with a warm orange glow and green Goodyear Wings logo. Jet black trim finishes the set off with the perfect contrast. This highly sought after radio is sure to turn heads no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in.

Dial &Knobs: The large oval dial is quite the attention getter. Brightly lit by dual lamps, it features a black background with ivory numbers and letters. When powered up the dial comes to life with an awesome orange glow and green Goodyear Wings logo. Quite an impressive sight, especially in a dim lit room. The dial displays three band scales (AM broadcast, mid wave and shortwave). A flip indicator, located at the bottom of the dial, opens or closes in accordance to which band you are currently listening to. The top center of the dial features a second dial pointer with vernier tuning for pin point accuracy.All numbers and letters on the dial are legible and show very little signs of wear. All four wood knobs are in perfect shape and control: on/off & volume, variable tone control, tuning and band switch.

Grill Cloth:The 1930’s stylegrill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a metallic silver color with a miniature diamond design. This grill cloth can also bepurchased separately on our other sales.

Chassis: All tubes in the 6 tube chassis were testedwith any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors werechecked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced orre-insulated and a new speaker installed. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimalperformance. Using the included copper line antenna the radio plays exceptionally well. I\'m able to receive many stations across the AM broadcast band with great tone, sensitive reception and plenty of volume. I am also able to pick up quite a few shortwave stations, especially at night.

The Cabinet’s Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinetsundergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the naturalbeauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. Weachieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sandthe cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, andblemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We makesure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detractfrom the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers areapplied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers andtoners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished inthe factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through aprofessional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room.Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allowsthe lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sandingfollows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Ozglaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, thefinal outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster&shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready toproudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.

Policies / Warranty: We offer a 14 day money backguarantee (buyer pays return shipping with professional packing) if the radiohas been grossly misrepresented. Our radios are accurately described and inworking order when shipped out. In rare instances however, as with any vintageelectronics, minor problems can occur during shipment due to the age anddelicacy of antique radio parts. If your radio arrives and does not work pleaselet us know. We will gladly walk you through the process of troubleshooting toget it started. If that fails to correct the problem we will pay for returnshipping to us, diagnose and fix the problem, and return the radio to you. Wealso offer a 30 day warranty on all the tubes,capacitors, resistors, and filters. Due to the design of some antique radioparts we cannot warranty transformers, coils, tuners, and speakers. However, ifat any time these parts would happen to fail, we will assist in repairing orreplacing the defective part at minimal cost. Finally, in very rareinstances, if there is shippingdamagea USPS insurance claim request must be made tome from the buyer immediately upon receipt of the radio. A USPS inspection ofthe radio, boxes, and all packing materials is required. The refund will beissued upon USPS approval and payment of the insurance claim.
