Here we have the highly sought after 1937 Crosley Fiver model 517 mirror dial table top radio. This beautiful set features a gorgeous American Walnut cabinet, lighted mirror dial that creates stunning reflections and 3D like effect, great Art Deco appeal and terrific performance on both the AM broadcast and shortwave bands.

Cabinet:The American Walnut cabinet is simply gorgeous. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set. Stylish rounded sides, coupled with the attractive grill, makes for a classic Art Deco look. Everything comes together magnificently with the amazing lighted mirror dial and 3D reflections it casts. Jet black trim and the original schematic label (inside cabinet) finish the cabinet off perfectly. This highly desirable radio is sure to attract attention no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in.

Dial &Knobs:The lighted mirror dial is absolutely stunning. One of the most attractive dials any radio has to offer (which is why Crosley patented it). It is designed with a gold mirror back, coupled with a convex glass front, which displays all the station frequencies and Crosley Fiver logo in reverse etched paint. This creates a magnificent 3D like effect with spectacular reflections. Whether the reflections are cast by natural light during the day, or by the bright dial lamp in a dark room, it is quite the sight! The dial glass and mirror have been polished and all letters and numbers on the dial are legible and show very little to no signs of wear. The surrounding brass escutcheon adds an elegant touch. All three knobs are in perfect shape and control on/off & volume, tuning and band switch.

Grill Cloth:The 1930’s stylegrill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a golden wheat color with a 3D diamond design. This grill cloth can also bepurchased separately on our other sales.

Chassis: All tubes in the 5 tube chassis were testedwith any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors werechecked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced orre-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimalperformance. Using the included copper line antenna the radio plays very well. I\'m able to receive many stations across the AM broadcast band with good tone and plenty of volume. I am also able to pick up quite a few shortwave stations, especially at night.

The Cabinet’s Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinetsundergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the naturalbeauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. Weachieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sandthe cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, andblemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We makesure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detractfrom the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers areapplied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers andtoners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished inthe factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through aprofessional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room.Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allowsthe lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sandingfollows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Ozglaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, thefinal outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster&shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready toproudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.
