Nothing beats the quality, craftsmanship and performance of a Zenith radio. And this one is no exception. The highly sought after 1937 Zenith model 5-S-119 Long Distance table radio featuring a stunning American Walnut cabinet, waterfall top design, spectacular back lit black dial, split second vernier tuning, and exceptional performance across the AM broadcast and shortwave bands.

Cabinet: The American Walnut cabinet boasts beautiful wood grain throughout the entire set with an eye catching swirled grain on the front. The elegant waterfall top, coupled with three blonde inlays, reminds you of the stylish designs so famous from the era. An intricate cut Art Deco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the speaker. It all comes together magnificently when powered up and the big black dial comes to life with a bright glow. Quite an impressive sight! You\'ll be the envy of all with this masterpiece proudly displayed in any room of your home or office.

Dial: Just look at Zenith\'s famous large black dial displaying all the station frequencies in an array of colors from red and blue to black and ivory! Nothing compares. And this one is just about as good as it gets with allletters and numberslegible and showing virtually no signs of wear. The dial also features numerous foreign country names listed for shortwave reference as well as the knob function above each knob. Two new dial lamps illuminate the dial with a warm orange glow. The dial glass is clear and free from any chips, breaks or cracks. The airplane style \'Z\' pointer is perfect and turns nicely around the dial. There is also a sleek red pointer for split second vernier tuning with pinpoint accuracy. All four wood knobs are in great shape and control the following: variable tone control, on/off & volume, tuning, and band switch (AM broadcast, now defunct police & aviation, and shortwave).

Grill Cloth: The 1930’s style grill cloth is a fine reproductionfeaturingawhiskey gold color withanArt Deco geometricdesign. This grillcloth can also be purchased separately on our other sales.

Chassis: All tubes in the5 tube chassis were testedwith any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors werechecked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced orre-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimalperformance. With the included copper line antenna the radio performsexceptionally well onthe AMbroadcast and shortwave bands. I\'m able to pick up manystations, near and far, across the dial on both the AM broadcast and shortwave band. The set provides console like sound with deep rich tone and room filling volume.

The Cabinet’s Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinetsundergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the naturalbeauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. Weachieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sandthe cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, andblemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We makesure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detractfrom the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers areapplied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers andtoners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished inthe factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through aprofessional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room.Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allowsthe lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sandingfollows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Ozglaze rub. During the restoration process on this radio a few small veneer chips were filled and/or blended as well a repair madeto the middle grill bar. All have been blended and do not detract from the beauty of the set. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, thefinal outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster&shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready toproudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.
