ORIGINAL 1858 KENTUCKY SLAVERY / SLAVE MANUMISSION DOCUMENT - A SLAVE IS FREED:
$206.39

Very rare and fantastic, original 1858 Manuscript Slavery Related Document from the State of Kentucky being a "Manumission Declaration and Bond" / Official Document stating that a black woman by the name of Abigail Susan Rader, formerly a slave, was now a free person of color - a "free woman". This fantastic Document certifying that a slave has been given her freedom and a bond has been posted to guarantee that she will not become a ward of the State is written on a high quality paper sheet that measures approx. 7 1/2" by 12 1/2". It is dated December 6th, 1858 and carries file docketing on the reverse.

The Document is fully manuscript and reads in full:

“Know all men by these presents that we Abigail Susan and And. W. Wallace are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Ky in the penal sum of five hundred dollars, the payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves our heirs, executors, administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed and dated this 6th day of December 1858.

The condition of this obligation is such that whereas the above bound Abigail has been emancipated & set free. Now should the said Abigail never become a charge to any County in the Commonwealth of Kentucky for her support and maintenance, then this obligation shall be void else to remain in full force and virtue.

Abigail S. Rader (her mark) (seal)
A. W. Wallace (seal)

Att R J Brown MCC"

The Document carries manuscript docketing on the reverse that attests to the fact that it was once filed with a Clerk of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Over the past 36+ years we have owned many Slave related documents, but never before have we had the pleasure of owning a Manumission Document of this type. This document is tangible evidence and legal proof that Nancy Shearman was no longer the property of another man - no longer a Slave but a free woman. We can only imagine how much a document like this would be cherished by its owner. How important it was and how proud she was to have it. I have to say a small chill traveled up my spine when I first held and read this fantastic Document. We have handled MANY important historical documents in the past, but none have been as life-changing nor carried the pure emotion and of this small piece of simple paper.

This rare and wonderful Kentucky Slave Manumission Document is in excellent condition - clean and crisp and very well preserved with the normal vertical and horizontal creases that are found on documents filed as public records.

This Manumission Document is unconditionally guaranteed original and as described - it will be accompanied by our own Letter of Authenticity with a statement of our lifetime, unconditional guarantee that it will be deemed authentic by any 3rd party authentication service.

A very rare and simply fantastic 1858 Kentucky Slave Manumission Document and Bond and a fantastic addition to any Historical Americana, Black Americana or American Historical Manuscript collection!! HALLELUJAH!!!!!
