Offering a rare original antique orotone / goldtone photograph of Mt. Rainier from Mirror Lake in Washington State by Seattle-based photographer James Bert Barton (J. B. Barton, J. B. B.), created ca. 1920s. Rare to see this vertical, and more desirable version, of Barton\'s depiction of the iconic Mirror Lake.As is typical with many of Barton\'s orotone photographs, this example is unsigned, but is of a known image Barton produced in both orotone and hand-tinted photograph formats. The high-quality of Barton\'s orotone photographs leads manycontemporarydealers to mis-attribute the piece to Asahel Curtis or Edward Curtis. Guaranteed to be 100% authentic period piece from the turn of the last century.
Housed in the original gold gilt Edward Curtis - style pie crust/batwing Arts & Crafts frame, which appears to have had some professional regilding to thecorners.
Orotone glass plate is overall in great antique condition, withbeautiful sepia-toning and crisp details. Some very light scratches on the underside of the glass plate within the emulsion slightly visible in the lower right quadrant just to the right of the reflected trees. Frame shows some light wear at the corners, as is consistent with age. Please pour over the provided photographs to better ascertain condition.
The orotone glass plate measures 8\" x 10,\" and overall the piece measures approximately 11-1/2\" x 13-1/2\" including the frame.
