Looking for an exceptional collector’s bike? Here it is!
The Raleigh sales catalog of the era describes The Tourist Bicycle as “the limousine of bicycles”. I can understand why this elegant bicycle was so popular - witha sturdy steel frame with a classic bike look. Raleigh bicycles (this one made in Nottingham, England) were the finest utility bicycles money could buy. The condition is as good as can be found for a bike nearly 50 years old. These bikes are often referred to a ‘Bobby Bikes’ (policeman) because that is how they were often used in England. It has the following features:
Reliable Sturmey-Archer AW 3-speed internal geared hub with oiling port; ELITE Headlight (does not work - probably needs batteries and bulb); Rod activated Tourist rim brakes front and rear (pulls up on rods instead of cable); Color is black with pinstriping and original factory decals; Brooks B90/3 sprung leather seat; Serial number 1007778 located under seat lug; No Rust; 34 inch standover height; Chromed wheels each marked: * ENGLAND F25.0 28 X 1 1/2; Front wheel with 36 spokes, Rear wheel with 40 spokes; Front and rear tires marked: RALEIGH ROADSTER 40 - 635 / 28 X 1 1/2; Original Raleigh petals with reflectors; original paint - nothing re-painted; original air pump incised ‘Britannialloy Made in England’ (not sure if it works); Original Sturmey-Archer 3 speed shifter and cables (works perfectly); Tire tubes have been replaced; Original kickstand.
There are some scratches and scuffs, but the general condition is very good, Please see all 12 photos. If you have questions, please email me, I will be happy to try to answer.I have used this bike for about 16 years - rides great but the brakesneed some attention.
SHIPPING: USA only.FREE shipping if you meet me anywhere in the State of Delaware for a pick-up. Shippingcost will be the responsibility of the buyer for actual cost shipping. I have never shipped a bicycle. My guess freight shipping will be at least $150. I will add $150 shipping charge on the invoice but if it costs more, I will let you know and if less, I will refund the difference. Cost depends on size of box, where sent, and weight.
