ORIGINAL PENOBSCOT NORTHEAST WOODLAND NATIVE AMERICAN CEREMONIAL ROOT/WAR CLUB: $200.00
Up for offers is this early original Penobscot ceremonial war club. The Penobscots are a Native American tribe of northern Maine and southern Canada. These war clubs were used by Penobscot warriors for centuries and are known to have been used before European contact. The club is made from a birch sapling. The roots are trimmed and pointed. Then the natural features of the head are used to find and bring out the \"spirit of the wood\". This is usually in the form of a face be it animal, bird, human or mythical creature. The handle of the club is carved with symbolic designs. This traditional club measures 27\" in length and is a fine large example. It exhibits a wonderful age patina. The club has no breaks or repairs. This club was never painted. It should not be confused with later tourist examples which are usually brightly painted and show a lesser degree of craftsmanship. This piece dates from the 1800\'s to around 1900. It is from an older collection assembled in the 1920\'s-1930\'s. It is new to the market place. Will ship to US and Canada only. Will ship via USPS Priority Mail. PayPal only accepted. Payment is due within 3 days of sale close. Please ask all questions before offerding/buying. Thank you and good luck.
