ORIGINAL U.S. NAVY, MIDSHIPMAN\'S DIRK DAGGER
1805 - 1812
The blade has an eagle (looks like a turkey) etched into one side of the blade.
The breast of the turkey has a shield with 13 small stars. (looks like dots)
The eagle has arrows in one claw and anolivebranch in the other.
There are 8 stars etched above the eagles head. (looks like fireworks)
The other side of the blade has a crossed flag and cannon. The cannon is a bulbous shaped Revolutionary War looking cannon.
Both sides of the blade have leaf design etchings as well.
This may have also been used during the civil war and the original handle was probably replaced around that time.
This is one of the earliest daggers ever made for the U.S Navy.
The Navy was very small at the time and there were probably very few of these ever made.
Thehandleis tight but the cross guard will move around.
