PHILIPS De Luxe Shortwave Portable RADIO 22RL798 ~ L6X38T ~ JAMES BOND Film Prop:
$202.50

Vintage Philips Antoinette Fm-Am Transworld de Luxe model 22RL798 also known as the L6X38T multi-band portable radio in good overall looking & working condition. It has Fm-Mw(Am)-Lw-(4)Sw bands. An interesting footnote is that is was used as prop in the James Bond film Diamonds are Forever as villain Blofeld\'s radio; and a screen shot is reproduced below I found online. There are also several names & many numbers associated with this radio model which makes it a bit confusing but this has a 22RL798 on a label. Cool and stylish 1960s vintage radio receiver and a neat collectable.

I got good, strong reception on FM across the dial and only a handful of stations on the AM. While all bands are ‘working’ with static or muffled broadcasts heard, I didn’t get clear reception on the other bands and it probably need the usual electrical restoration of alignment adjustment and replacing of old caps & resistors to bring it to like new condition as its over 50 years old. That being said, I’ve sold many vintage shortwaves including TransOceanics and none have given satisfactory world wide reception to me. Both tuners move fine; tuner light works fine. It’s about 14” x 9.5” x 5” Sold as-is, as found with no returns or partial refunds, but guaranteed to be as shown & described.

It is in good overall condition with some cosmetic issues. There has been some past battery leakage and a past owner replaced & glued in one of the battery springs; there is also some corrosion visible on the battery door latch assembly and discoloration to the bottom trim. The batteries make contact & power the radio fine as does a 9v AC adapter when used. The antenna tips are present but the impossibly thin upper segments & tips show bends. There are several pits to the chrome on the legs, compass center and trim. Base rotation is stiff. No cracks, breaks or major damage noted. Still present well for your collection.

Some specs I found on a web search: UT64 Philips L6X38T aka the 22RL798 Portable Shortwave Receiver: The Philips FM-AM DE LUXE L6X38T has an analog display. It features band buttons for FM 88-108 MHz, LW 150-400 kHz, MW 530-1600 kHz, SW1 16.2-27.5, SW2 8-15.8, SW3 4.5-8, SW4 1.7-4.6 MHz. A flip-down cover protects the dial. The left side of the radio has the FM tuning knob for the FM band which is along to top of the radio. The right side has the tuning knob for the other bands. There are separate bass and treble controls. The rear panel has multiple I/O jacks and a battery compartment.

Note to buyers: Zero or under 5 response buyers email me first or you will be cancelled & blocked.

An updated note on shipping charges.
This year Fed Ex and the other carriers have dramatically increased costs when factoring even a small amount of dimensional weight (size of the box). What used to ship for weight alone such as a table radio is now several dollars more and a stereo component box now can cost double what it used to. I’m just passing along these increased fees and only seek to cover expenses and not to profit on shipping.
