Note: One can always use a smaller size portion pack then what the size of the kettle is. In other words, you can use a 4oz portion pack in a 6 or 8 oz kettle machine. It will not give you more popcorn by using a larger machine and a smaller portion pack. Serving size of the 4oz portion pack will be the same. If you are wanting more popcorn, you can use two 4oz popcorn packs in a 8oz kettle machine at one time. (do not double a 4oz pack in a 6oz machine). You do not want to use a larger portion pack then what your machine is. For example, don\'t use an 8oz portion pack in a 4oz machine or a 4oz portion pack in a 2oz machine. All you end up with is a lot of un-popped kernels.

I just received my popcorn portion packs and the oil is hard, is that normal?

Yes, during the cooler months of the year, in a cold delivery truck, the coconut oil will harden. This is normal, as coconut oil will turn to a solid when below 76 degrees. Leaving it at room temperature will soften it. There is no need to “warm-up” your solid coconut oil before adding it to your popcorn kettle. The coconut oil can be added to your kettle when it is solid, as your heated kettle is about 300+ degrees thus turningthe oilback to a liquid.

What is theshelf-life of the popcorn portion packs?
When storing the popcornportion packs, it is best to store them where it is below 70 degrees. You shouldnot refrigerate the portion packs. The shelf-life of the portion packsis about a year. The coconut oil can last longer then the popcorn kernels. There is no \"expiration date\" on the portion packs.

What size popcorn popper do I need?

The size you need is entirely dependent upon the amount of people you feed on a regular basis. Remember that the \"ounce amount\" relates directly to how many ounces of popcorn can be produced in one batch. For small groups of guests, the four-ounce popper may be perfect for you. If you entertain large groups you may want to buy the six- or eight-ounce popper to avoid making multiple batches all the time. If it’s just you and one other person and space is a concern, than the two-ounce machine is great. Also, take note that some four-ounce machines may not have warming trays because there is usually not much popped corn left over in the machine. What is the popped corn equivalent of one ounce of popcorn kernels?

One ounce of uncooked kernels yields one quart of cooked corn. Another way to look at this ratio is to think of a bag of microwave popcorn. A four-ounce bag of kernels (for a four-ounce popper) yields approximately the same amount of popped corn as a bag of microwave popcorn. Depending on how much your guests love popcorn, a four-ounce serving of popcorn could serve about 8 servings. Don\'t forget to buy popcorn servingbags, scoop boxes or tubs. How long does it take to cook a batch of popcorn?

Once the kettle has heated, each batch should take approximately three to four minutes. Heat the kettle for seven to nine minutes before you are ready to pop. When it is ready, pour in the oil. Toss in a few kernels to test the \"poppibility.\" When those pop, include the rest of the kernels. Shut your lid and let it go, until you hear the popping start to slow (three to four minutes). Dump the kettle and dig in.

What type of oil should I use to cook popcorn?

Choosing the correct oil will be your biggest decision. Oil affects the taste and the nutritional value of your popcorn. Manufacturers love coconut oil because it burns the cleanest, and supposedly tastes the best. If you are health-conscious however, you may want to steer clear of coconut oil and try canola oil (canola oil has a lower fat and cholesterol content). Other oils frequently used are sunflower, peanut and soy. The best plan for choosing oil is to research the nutritional value, then trial and error to determine which tastes best to you. The only oil to avoid is vegetable oil, because it cannot stand the heat of the kettle and tends to burn and smoke up the place, leaving a bit of a burnt taste to the popcorn. What makes theater popcorn taste so much better than microwave popcorn?

The taste and flavor of popcorn is determined by the type of oil and seasoning salt that is used in the cooking process. Most theaters use a specially formulated cooking oil that is partially absorbed by the popcorn as it pops. This is what gives the popcorn its flavor. Why does popcorn “Pop”?Quality popcorn has a moisture content of 13-14% inside the hull. When the popcorn is heated the moisture turns to steam and expands. Eventually the pressure from the expanding steam causes the hull to explode. Storing popcorn in a sealed container at room temperature or less will keep the moisture content consistent and the popcorn fresh. Avoid storing popcorn in extremely warm and dry conditions which will cause the moisture content in the popcorn to reduce. A loss of as little as 3% moisture can cause the kernel to become un-poppable (an old maid).What\'s the best way to keep my popcorn machine clean?

Most poppers utilize tempered glass panels, stainless steel clean-out trays, and aluminum corner posts. These surfaces can be cleaned using standard window cleaner or soap and water. To keep your kettle as clean as possible, let it cool after each use then wipe it out with a damp cloth. Cleaning kits must be used when the kettle becomes black with carbonization. Do you have 2-ounce portion packs for my tabletop 2oz kettle machine?

No. None of our suppliers have a 2oz portion pack available. The reason they tell us is because there is not enough demand for a 2oz size popcorn portion pack. Plus the cost to make a two-ounce size would be about the same as making the 4oz size anyway.
One can always use half of the 4oz packs in your two-ounce machine. You do not use the whole pack at one time in one batch (just ends up with a lot of un-popped kernels). Using about half of the oil and kernels in a batch is the easy part. The part of getting about half of the seasoning salt can be tricky. But then again, with the 4oz packs, there is not much seasoning salt in the first place (about a teaspoon), so as long as you get some seasoning salt in each of the two batches when using the 4oz portion pack, it will be OK. Remember, do not put the whole 4oz pack in your 2oz kettle at one time.
