Pre-War Lionel 53 Round Cab 0-4-0 Locomotive Engine Train & 3 Passenger Cars NR:
$261.99

PRE-WAR LIONEL #53 ROUND CAB 0-4-0
LOCOMOTIVE WITH 3 PASSENGER CARS

Up for sale is an early pre-war Lionel electric locomotive with 3 passenger cars (standard gauge). The locomotive is a maroon #53 round cab 0-4-0 made during 1920-21. The engine measures about 11 1/8\" long and has the oval New York Central markings. According to the book \"Lionel - A Collector\'s Guide & History - Standard Gauge \" by McComas & Tuohy, the #53 locomotive only had the round cab for 2 years (1920-21) and \"is a pretty tough engine to find and is sought-after by collectors\".

Also included are the following 3 passenger cars: 180 Pullman, 181 Baggage Parlor Car, and 182 observation car. Each car measures about 12 7/8\" long. The cars still have some of the original celluloid in the windows. The observation car has the long deck with the swirl railing. These cars date from the same period as the engine and are believed to be the original set sold with the locomotive. I purchased this train at a recent sale where a large collection was being liquidated.I\'m not a collector experienced in grading trains, but I believe the set meets the TCA condition rating of \"good\". From what I can tell, everything appears complete and original. The paint has lots of scratches and the markings show considerable wear. I believe the paint is original, although some areas are shinier than others (perhaps sprayed with a clear coating). The celluoid strips and plastic window coverings are warped with some damage. The engine is untested (I don\'t have the capability to run it), but the wheels and gears turn properly. Regardless, you are buying this train \"as is\" with no returns. Please take a close look at the many photos I\'ve provided and judge condition for yourself. I think you\'ll be very pleased with this purchase.

If you collect model trains, particularly pre-war Lionel locomotives, don\'t miss your opportunity to offer on this offering. As I mentioned earlier, the round cab #53 is quite scarce and seldom seen on e-bay. My start price of only $9.99 (WITH ) is a ridiculous bargain and intended to spark interest. The McComas & Tuohy book (1993 edition) lists the value of this locomotive in very good condition at $1,000. So offer now while the price is right and check back often. This locomotive and passenger car set WILL be sold to the highest buyer!
