I would be more than pleased to deliver this wonderful radio to the New England Vintage Electronics Expo(NEVEE) in Nashua, NH on March 4th, 2018, saving you the $250 shipping charge, and me the 6 hours of packing it properly. Just Google New England Vintage Electronics Expoif you live in the Northeast and are interested in this Flea Market Event with at least 25 year old VINTAGE Radios, Amplifiers, Record Players, Vinyl, Stereo Receivers, Speakers, Telephones, Transistor Radios, Tube Hi Fi and Audio, Television, Amateur Radio and Communication Devices, Vacuum Tubes, Telegraphs, Enigma, Gaming Equipment, Early Computers and Calculators, and the Paper and Literature of same. You won’t be disappointed!

At one time I had over 40 console radios in my house at the same time, and have certainly dealt with hundreds more of them. They are beautiful pieces of Art, and I loved every one of them. But, I promised my son when I “retired” eight years ago that “I wouldn’t buy anything bigger than a breadbox, or that weighed over 50 lbs”. There are only two consoles here now. By making this one available, I’m about to downsize to one. I’ve always loved this Rare 1941 18 Tube Midwest 181 5 Band Radio in the „Y“ Console cabinet, but it is time for someone else to enjoy it.

This 28” x 13” x 35” set has been repaired a couple times while I owned it. First in 2007 by my friend Tom Romano of Tom’s Antique Radio & Television, and then in 2015 by my Tech Friend Tom Scarpelli. The set is in working condition with a bright tuning eye, and I pick up good AM and some Short Wave on a short antenna wire. There are 3 short wave bands covering 1.6 to 30.0 MHz. I don\'t believe there is anything on the 125-350KHz Long wave band. A long outdoor antenna is the thing if you want good Short Wave. The parallel push pull quad of 6F6 tubes pumps out 25 watts into the Organ Fonic 12\" Speaker that also has a 4\" midrange/tweeter.

The cabinet was refinished back in 2007 by Little Joe. I never really used this set, so it just sits, and I would like it to go to someone who will enjoy it. No pictures of this set are on RadioMuseum. It was a pricey set that could be bought from Midwest with monthly payments.

Google Midwest 181 for much more information. The Indiana Radio Club has some excellent information.

THIS RADIO IS SOLD AS IS WITHOUT RETURNS. You are buying 77 year old vintage tube electronics.

If you think you are buying a new Iphone, don’t offer.

If you can’t push the tubes back in their sockets after shipping, don’t offer.

If you know nothing about tube electronics, or don’t have a friend who does, don’t offer.

I had an incredibly bad experience on last year selling a Predicta TV to an Idiot! He claimed he knew all about Predicta TVs, but wouldn’t even bother to push the tubes down in the set after it shipped from New Hampshire to California.

I had to give him back his original purchase price and shipping AND pay his return shipping to get back my Predicta which got the picture tube cover broken on the return trip from his poor packing!

Within 5 minutes of unpacking it, and just reseating the tubes, it was playing fine.

This is my 20th year on , with well over 5000 positive responses. I’m in this for the long haul, not a quick buck. I’m the best packer on - read my response. THIS RADIO IS SOLD AS IS WITHOUT RETURNS because of a new breed of Buyers like the Predicta Idiot who cost me a lot of money.. Good luck to those who understand what this is, and this rare opportunity. Sorry to sound so terse, but if you LOST $500.00 selling an item on , besides the and PayPal fees, you would be very careful in the future. Of course I\'ll pack it  well, removing the tubes and large glass dial-packing them separately , Radioorphanage

On Feb-24-18 at 08:55:22 PST, seller added the following information:

I’ve been asked about how I would ship this set. Attached are pictures of the shipping box, sheets of foam, large bubble wrap, and foam pellets I will be using to pack the radio well.Estimated material cost: over $60. Estimated time to pack and ship: over 6 hours. To ship, I will take it to my local shipper and review price for Shipping AND FULL INSURANCE.Choices are normally, UPS. FedEx, and DHL. I prefer Fed Ex.Without sounding like a Jerk, $250 to ship this anywhere in the USA is a bargain, and the further away it goes, the more money I will LOSE.If you are concerned at all about the shipping, please check my response.Again, without sounding like a Jerk, I\'m the best packer on , and thousands of buyers in my response will tell you the same.Remember, If you pick it up at the New England Vintage Electronics Expo in Nashua, NH on March 4th, you are my new BFF!Good Luck,Radioorphanage
