RARE 1939 Zenith 9S324 Shutter Dial 3-Band Table Model Tube Radio -- WORKING:
$425.00

You are offerding on a very seldom seen 1939 Zenith model 9S324 9-tube table radio in working condition.

Among the many 1939 Zenith shutter-dial radios, the model 9S324 is one of the least frequently found today. It uses the same chassis (5907) as the more common table radios like the \"Waltons\" radios and the common 9-tube consoles such as the 9S367. The 9S324 is a large radio (24\" wide by 14\" high by 13\" deep), and I believe that most people who could afford this high-end radio in 1939 would have preferred a console model. So Zenith sold very few of these. And, of course, 75 years later even fewer have survived.

This is a \"shutter-dial\" radio, so when the band is changed the entire visible dial scale changes. The radio covers the standard AM broadcast band, plus shortwave bands from 2.3 to 7.5 MHz and 8-24 MHz. It also has eight push-button preset stations for the AM band. A \"magic eye\" closes when a station is properly tuned in.

I got this radio about 25 years ago. I rebuilt the badly damaged cabinet and refinished as needed. I also installed a new 6U5 eye tube and replaced the filter capacitors and a few other capacitors (last photo). Since then this radio has been on exhibit as part of my Zenith collection, but rarely played. When I decided to sell it I replaced the dial belt which had broken from lack of use with a new one of the correct size and tested the radio. It still plays very well, with a much bigger sound than just about any other table radio you will ever find. Like most radios of the era it needs an antenna for best reception, especially on shortwave. It has the 6-button \"radio organ\" tone control, allowing 32 different tone settings.

As you can see, the radio has the correct ivory Zenith knobs and tone/station inserts. One blank station insert has gone missing. Exact reproductions are available on and elsewhere. The grille cloth is either original or the correct reproduction pattern.

I have never seen another 9S324, so don\'t miss this chance to own one. This sale has a modest reserve to keep Buy-It-Now available after the first offer.

Ihave been collecting antique radios and TV\'s for over 30 years. Please watch my future sales for more vintage radio and TV items.
