A rare Ottoman Turkish naval shamshir, dating to the period 1750-1830 This is one of the very examples we\'ve encountered with a solid brass hilt with molded grips for fingers. While molded grips are not uncommon, grips made entirely of brass are uncommon and this characteristic and the proportions of this sword indicate that this was likely for an Ottoman naval officer. The sword is in good condition and displays appropriate wear for an example of this period. The original scabbard is leather covered timber with brass fittings. The blade is in the original untouched condition and the overall balance of the sword is superb due to the heft of the solid grip.
A rare Ottoman Turkish naval sword of a period before the standardization of weaponry in the Ottoman navy. This sword likely saw service in the Greek War of Independence and the myriad naval skirmishes of the Mediterranean and Black Sea Turkish fleets.
Overall length is 36\" and 29\" blade.
