this good example of a high quality 3-way Powder Flask for pistols.
The flask has been manufactured by the famous James Dixon & Sons factories from Sheffield.
It is signed by the maker twice. The cover of the bullet receptable is signed: DIXON & SONS SHEFFIELD.
The nozzle bears the marking: DIXON & SONS. This nozzle has a 3-step graduated scale which is further unmarked.
The bottom receptable has a sliding cover which has been decorated tastefully.
These 3-way flasks were used to carry gunpowder, ball and percussion caps (sometimes flints) in one package.
Statistics: the overall length included nozzle is 104 mm (4.1 Inches) and the widest point measures 44 mm (1.7 Inches).
The diameter of the receptable for ball is 15 mm (approx. 0.6 Inches). The bottom receptable has a diameter of 25 mm (1 Inch).
Condition: the body has NO dents and approx. 80% of the original dark brown laquer.
The bottom receptable & cover are in excellent condition with much gilded finish. All steel screws are present on top- and bottom section.
The ball receptable cover is in excellent condition and so is the nozzle (locking screw present).
Cutt-off plate is present but thumb-piece is missing. The spring is partially present.
A good specimen of a rare 3-way flask....
