5"BOXWOOD, BRASS &BONE
HAT MAKERS SIZINGGAUGE
Exceptionally rare and well preserved mid tolate 19th Centurybrass &boxwood Milliner'ssizinggauge, with a delicate bone slider.
This rule is 5 inches long with early bone slide with brass grip. The top surface is marked out in inches,sub-divided into 8ths. The reverse carries the familiar 3 column Milliner'stable, with sections for Length, Width and Size.
The slides on early rules were originally made of wood, or very occasionally bone. Bone is a delicate and brittle material, and it's rare to find one intact.
Condition:Check the supersize pictures. Bone slide movesas smooth and firm as when first made. No previous owners marks.Some staining from years of use. No significant cracks or chips. Tiny makers mark of '3' stamped under the bone slide.
