Rare Antique Watson Vanneck SLR vintage camera for restoration

The Vanneck Hand Camera by W. Watson & Sons circa 1891. Serial No. 10853.

Rare early camera with single lens reflex focussing. Fitted with a magazine to hold twelve glass plates in metal sheaths. The plates are changed by rear lever and the top has a removable leather bag to allow this movement.

The view finder is placed in the top middle of the camera and shows the exact size as photographed less a small margin. When the image in the finder is focused by a turn key underneath it is also focused on the plate. Fitted with a rapid rectilinear F8 brass lens of approx. 5 1/2 inch focal length.

The Thornton Pickard pattern roller blind, string cocked shutter and the internal mirror are missing.

With 12 quarter plate metal sheaths and two unused glass plates.

Inlaid Plaque reads: \"W. Watson & Sons, Manufacturers 313 High Holborn London\" and a further small roundel reads: \" N & A patent 243\"

The base is secured by 8 screws which should allow access to the inside of the camera for restoration.

Externally the morroco leather covering is in excellent condition as is the external general appearance.

The lens has an iris diaphragm marked f8 to f64 and is clean and clear with a tiny bit of balsam showing on the front lens rim.
