Rare c1890 Victorian Furniture Store Miniature Advertising Chair Sign St Paul MN:
$197.50

For your consideration is this rare original miniature store display or point of sale advertising chair given out by Wallblom & Thoorsell of St Paul, Minnesota. This fantastic piece of advertising was found at a local estate in Minnesota and is fresh to the market. Printed on the top of the chair it reads \"Wallblom & Thoorsell Furniture, 326-330 E 7th St, St Paul, Minn\".
John Thoorsell emigrated to the US in 1869, and in 1874 opened a cabinet making, undertaking and retail furniture establishment in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. In 1887, he moved to St Paul where he embarked in the furniture and undertaking business with Charles Wallblom. This store was in operation until the financial crisis of 1893 when it was dissolved. Mr Thoorsell continued his undertaking business for many years. Charles Wallblom was a Republican Representative and continued in the furniture business for many years afterward. So the chair dates to the short time frame of their partnership, somewhere between 1887 to 1893. The paint is all original and has wonderful patina, with the red paint wearing in some areas as expected, mainly on the top of the backrest. Its clear this was a handmade piece by the firm, as the bottom of the chair has some rough areas that were not sanded clean like the top. Very solid construction and an pretty incredible item for display. It measures 9.5\" tall, 6.5\" wide, and 5.25\" deep. This likely one of a kind piece would be an excellent addition to any advertising or salesman sample collection. Rarely do you find Victorian advertising items such as this.
