Rare Civil War Union Frankford Arsenal tin box for cannon primers artillery For Sale

Offered for your consideration is a seldomly encountered and very rare Civil War artillery item. This is an original,genuine Union Army tin box from the Frankford Arsenal, which would have held 100 cannon primers, which were usedto fire muzzle loading cannon, such as the classic Civil War 6 or 12 pounder Napoleons, field cannon or mountain howitzers. The box is made of tin and measures about 4-1/4 inches by 2- 5/8th inches by 2-3/8th inches in size. The lid wasembossed at the arsenal and you can still clearly see the crossed cannon and the ordnance bomb. You can still see some of the very lightly embossed lettering that would have read \"100 FRICTION PRIMERS” and \"FRANKFORD ARSENAL”. The tin displays well and even has the little closure tab still present. These were not meant to be saved, which makes them rare. Similar to wooden ammo crates, once the contents of these were used, these itemswere tossed away in the heat of battle. Very few of these survive to this day.I have been collecting Civil War items for 30 years and this is the first one I have ever seen in person. It is in very good condition for its age, but does have some dents, creases, oxidation and bumps and bruises. Please see pictures for condition and judge for yourself.
