A fantastic piece of microphone history. This ribbon microphone was manufactured by E.M.I. (Electric & Musical Industries Ltd) - the same EMI that blossomed into a major music publishing business and creator of the famous Abbey Road recording studios.
This EMI ribbon mic was also released as the HMV (His Master\'s Voice) series as part of the HMV 2300 portable analog disc recorder package. This particular mic and stand base are all but flawless, as can be seen in the pictures. There are some marks on the post of the stand where the mic and stand are secured in its box, but the stand base is beautiful chrome with no pitting to be seen. In preparation for this sale, I had the mic re-ribboned by Shaughn McClurg of Wes Dooley\'s Audio Engineering Associates (AEA). He advised that the output of the mic was low, even for a ribbon, so I had him replace the original transformer with a CineMag transformer. The original tranny comes along with the sale for historical purposes. The cable was also replaced and terminated with the more functional male XLR connector.
Ahh, the storage box. Again, this is original with the microphone, and is responsible for the mic remaining in such good shape - the box took the beating instead of the microphone. Again, for historical purposes, I\'ve left the box as is. As the new owner, if you want to refurbish it, that\'s up to you.
