Rare GAR Civil War Union Veteran Picture Label Under Glass Canteen Flask Bottle For Sale

This is a very rare clear glass GAR canteen. It is the only example Ihave ever seen. Theimage under glass is of the Congressional Medal of Honor surrounded by a wreath and bordered by2 U.S. flags. The image of the medal is markedGRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC 1861 VETERAN1866. It was made to honor UnionCivil War veterans.The opposite side hasadeeply impressed U.S. with red paint inside the letters.The canteen is4 1/2\" in diameter and 1 3/8\" thick. The lower back has PATENT APPLIED FOR on it.

It has its original cord handle and metal loops. The metal screw cap is missing. There is one smallbubble blow out just inside the lip of the spout, but no chips or cracks. The label with the medal has really bright colors that are impressive.

The medal pictured is actually a Grand Army of the Republic medal. The early ones looked very much like the Congressional Medal of Honor but with different writing.
