RARE WWII GERMAN MAUSER 98K K-98 POLICE BAYONET EAGLE D PROOF ACS ALCOSO:
$180.27

Presented for the collector of WWII German bayonets is this wonderful specimen of the K98k bayonet in an exceptionally scarce commercially-marked and police-proofed configuration. The bayonet itself is marked on the ricasso with the \"ACS\" and scales logo. This isone of the commercial marks of the Alexander Coppel firm in Solingen, Germany alternatively known as \"Alcoso.\" The bayonet is unnumbered (i. e.unnumbered at the factory) as is correct for these scarce police-proofed bayonets and is dimensionally the same as the standard K98k bayonet. The spine of the blade bears a very sharply struck \"Eagle D\" German police proof/acceptance mark near the crossguard. The pommel bears a unit-applied inventory or rack number of \"928.\" The bayonet retains a very conservative 98% of the original bluing throughout with the only wear being on the high points of the crossguard and catch button. The blade rates close to 100% in my opinion. It possesses a high polish and a very deep plum/black luster when observed under an intense light. The original walnut handle scales are unvarnished and the flash guard bears an unusual checkered pattern that was effected in a rolling mill of some sort. I have seen this exact feature only on other ACS-manufactured and \"Eagle D\"-proofed bayonets. This bayonet SHOULD have an unnumbered \"ACS\" marked scabbard; however, this one does not. The scabbard accompanying this bayonet as it was brought back in 1945 is marked with the Paul Weyersburg code of \"44 crs\" and is serial numbered \"2017 h.\" The scabbard has an unusual aluminum rivet which retains the throat of the scabbard unlike the expected slotted screw. It has been in this configuration forever and is a factory/arsenal application. I recentlyobserved a late \"h-block\"\"crs 44\" scabbard with the slotted screw. This unusual anomaly of an aluminum throat retention rivet coupled with the observation of other ACS \"Eagle D\"-proofed bayonets with mismatched scabbards implies that these \"Eagle D\" proofed bayonets may have been assembled from surplus, repaired, or second quality parts to satisfy this late war police contract. It is not unlike the second quality arms which were arsenal repaired/refurbishedwith their unique proofsthat weresupplied to the camp guards. Could these Eagle D bayonets have some association with that arm of the Wehrmacht? It is obvious the bayonet and scabbard have been together since the war. This niche of the K98k bayonet world is certainly deserving of more research. This highly conditioned specimen would compliment even an advanced collection of K98k bayonets. !
