Offered in this sale is a rare hand painted French faience octagonal plate with a molded beaded rim that was made by Geo Martel in Desvres France in the very early 1900s. It measures roughly 11 3/8\" in diameter.. It is marked on the back France BAYEUX 1066. It is decorated with medieval figures and a phrase in Latin set against a yellow background. The decoration comes from scenes that appear on the famous Bayeux Tapestry which depicts the battle of Hastings in Sussex England on October 14, 1066 hence the 1066 incorporated in the mark on the back. This piece is one of more then 40+ pieces in this rare pattern in various forms that I will be listing for sale on over the coming days. Each piece is a work of art in itself. Other than some very minor wear to the green painted outer rim in spots there are no chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines or restoration.
