The cabinet is as close to museum likequality as you will get, with marbled swirl patterned Bakelite, this radio hasbeen very well taken care of.The radio’s electronics have beenrestored and as a result it sounds perfect pulling in stations both local anddistant with just internal loop antenna. The working phono input was tested andit works perfect with an iPod and or MP3 player – or if you have a phonograph!(See/ Hear Video Demo)The design of this radio is popular withcollectors due to its beautiful mix of late art deco styling combined with thesmooth lines of machine age design. It was one of the last radio models RCAproduced before World War 2 when companies started gearing up for wartimeproduction.
As you can hear from the video, this radio soundsperfect! It isn’t often the RCA 15X is found in nearly mint condition. ItsBakelite shines with a detailed and stunning marbled swirl pattern. It is powered by 6 tubes, has anice 5 inch speaker. There isnohum, Volumecontrol is smooth withnoscratch or pop noises. Itplays nicely at low to medium volume, it will go higher, but we wouldn’tadvise testing the limits of the 74 year old speaker. The dial glass andscale are original and in very nice, clear condition. The dial light does agood job of lighting up the dial scale and frequencies in a dark room. Thedial needle moves in sync with the tuning knob as designed. RCA Victor is prolific as being at theforefront of radio patents, quality, and design. This radio has beenelectronicallyrestored; all tubes were checked and found to be strong, capacitorsand resistors were replaced as needed, the tuner bearings were lubricated, thedial lamp was replaced, rubber dampers were installed to cushion the dialscale from potential vibration at higher volume, the phonoinputwas cleaned as well as the antenna connector panel, the RF/IF alignment wastouched up. This radio is ready for use for years to come!
There is only very minor wear on the case, barely visiblein normal light, but given the age you will find blemishes andimperfections. Please look at the photos closely - this cabinet isstunning! All components are original. These models are not often foundelectronically restored and with a case this pristine. We checked theonline value site, Worth point, and GOOGLE, and found most of these modelsnowhere near the condition of this example. This radio is one of those rare opportunities collectors shouldtake advantage of.
