Rouch Eureka Polished Mahogany Detective Camera, circa 1888.:
$547.78

"Patent Eureka Camera Manufactured by W.W. Rouch & Co., London" says the ivory label on the right side of the camera. A rare opportunity to acquire a piece of photographic history. This polished-mahogany detective style camera was made by W.W. Rouch & Co., England, circa 1888. Brass barrel lens, with a roller-blind shutter. I have not removed the front panel and I am unable to verify the type of lens, but a catalogue description shows a Rouch 150mm lens. The roller-blind shutter winds easily and works with a decisive clunk. The magazine plate changer has a unique method of loading the 12 plates contained in the rear chamber of the camera. All 12 plates are present, but fogged by light after almost 130 years. The camera is focused by extending the rear end according to the inscribed distance scale mounted on the top. I have not attempted to use the patented plate changer. The mahogany box is in fine condition overall. The doe skin bag in the rear chamber seems brittle and dry. The brass shutter winding key appears to be a replacement but works well. The camera is in the condition I acquired it many years ago for my private collection, and it is possible a prior owner may have done some restorative work. In any case the camera is revealed in the accompanying photos. A truly rare and beautiful camera made during the age of pride of craftsmanship. The camera and 12 glass plates make for a heavy package, and this is reflected in the shipping cost, which will include insurance. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
