DESCRIPTION: for reference please see Millers Collectables 2010/2011 - Judith Miller - Page 251 for more examples... Or Millers Collectables - Judith Miller -2008 - Page 310 for another texturalbottle vasein emerald green.

Absolutely stunning and very tsriking thick walled textured geometric column vase designed by Gote Augustssen in the early sixties for the Ruda Glasbruk factory in colours of a rich and very restrained and sophisticated cobalt blue with darker shades of a deep Sapphire andIndigo blue. I must apologise for some of the photos whereby the correct colour of the vase can be seen in photos 1,2, 3, 5 and 7. The Ruda factory started in 1910 and sadly closed its doors in 1972 whereby the factory was situated close to that of Kosta and Orrefors. Producing mainly industrial glass the factory\'s main glass master Gote Augustssen designed a popular range of textural pieces of art glass which including many geometric cubist rectangular designs including a variety of bottle vases and the more scarce turreted column vase above. Augustssen was chief designer from the years 1947 to 1972 whereby the blue range was known as \' Kobalt \'. He also produced his textural designs in colours of green known as Turkos and the scarcer amber topaz colouration known as Orient. The striking and very imposing, thick walled vase starts with a largesquare moulded base which shows little if any signs of wear. The latter surrounds a deep central sunken pristine pontil. The piece ascends to form a straight sidedcolumn whose exquisite very masculine textural features resemble roughly chiselled rock orslate. Slightly protruding rock like texturedstrata and vertical striatedshards are set amidst a ground offiner textural bark like elements. The vase features asublime heavy basal plinthand an equallystriking turreted upper element whereby both opposing elements stand proud of the vase\'s four elongated and vertical rectangular fascia\'s. Each facia is adorned with a unique textural fascia which resembles or mimics a tree\'s bark. The four superlative textural rectangualr columned fascia\'s are embellished with a whole host of differing geometric windows or portals that allow the viewer to catch just aglimpse of the vase\'s internal structure. These sublime portals are in direct contrast to the tapestry ofsurrounding textural elements, as they appear like highly polished windows. Linear and geometric shapes and portals include T junctions, squares, rectangles, L shaped and inverted L shapedcul-de-sacs. The latter allow both natural and unnatural light to penetrate the vase\'s cobaly blue perimeter walls. They also serve to highlight and distinguish between the deeper and very restrained textural cobalt areas and the slightly lighter, quite sublime indigo or deep sapphire geometric and linear decorative windows. The piece definitely displays an almost chameleon like colouration whereby the brighter shades of cobalt blue seen in daylight are replaced with sublime tones of peacock blue and indigo in unnatural and more subdued lighting. The vase\'s exquisite cubist, Greek Key and abstract windows or portals allow the viewer to glimpse and indeed appreciate the glorious striking cobalt blue colouration of the vases main core. The vase and indeed the whole Kobakt range is supremely decorated with a series of geometric and linear shapes that catch the eye and dominate the sceneto great effect. The highly polished geometric shapes are not dissimilar to that of Greek Key patternations whereby their recessed forms are flanked and surrounded by a beautiful intricate mesh like texturing. The vases superlative cobalt blue colouration is quite breathtaking whereby it is tinged with slightlydarker, more restrained and sophisticated shades of Indigo and Peacock blues.Every twist and turn andchanging light levels create a profusion ofsumptuous and very striking tones across the blue spectrum. The vasesimposing column and it\'s superlative textural plinth base is reminiscent of the spectacular and very impressive plaster cast of Rome\'s \' Trajan\'s Column\' exhibited at London\'s The Victoria and Albert Museum.Theheavily moulded pieceis mould blown and hand finished to a very high level of technical expertise and innovative design artistry whereby the textured side walls are not at all dissimilar to that of some of Geoffrey Baxter\'s designs for the much acclaimedEnglish factory of Whitefriars. The textural plinthbased columned vase has an immense presence andcharacter whereby it\'s almost confident, self assured formis simply superb.Ruda pieces have only recently, within the last 5-8 years, become, deservedly, highly collectable around the world whereby they have obviously always been known appreciated intheir native Sweden. The early to late sixties produced a wave of interest for textural glass which was arguably led by Geoffrey Baxter\'s Bark series at Whitefriars. The popularity of textural art glass has indeed lasted the supreme test of time whereby textural pieces from Sweden, England, Italy and Scandinavia are highly collected and sought after by a growing army of collectors and 20th Century modernistart glass enthusiasts.

CONDITION – SIZE – WEIGHT

Condition of the striking geometric textural columned, plinth based vase is A1 perfect and pristinewith no chips, dents, cracks, abrasions, nibbles, scratches or water damage at all.The piece measures6.9 \" (21.3 cms ) in height and weighs in at 876 gms ( sorry but the postage will suffer sligtly ). The vases heavy circular base shows no signs of wear which has been protected by its slightly textural surface skin, whereby the central sunken pontil is alsoin a pristine condition.
