SCARCE VINTAGE 1900s F. A. ALLEN MONMOUTH ILLINOIS DUCK CALL:
$41.09

Presented for the collector of vintage duck calls is this untouched specimen of the famous F. A. Allen Monmouth, Illinois duck call dating from the early 1900s to the 1920\'s in my estimation. This call measures 5 inches in length and is in wonderful, untouched, uncleaned condition with a great undisturbed patina. The call is complete in every regard including the brass reed and cork insert; however, some adjustment to that may be required as it does not call. The wood barrel retains all of the original varnish and the nickel plated brass bell is firmly attached. There is some patination to the nickel on one side. The call is stamped on the bell \"F. A. ALLEN MONMOUTH, ILL.\" Fred A. Allen is recognized as the inventor of the \"modern\" duck call. Thus, every call collection or display needs one of these. Additional information from secondary sources is abundant. Here is one entry:

\"Fred A. Allen (1838-1912) of Monmouth, Illinois is generally given credit as the first commercial maker of a single-toneboard, or modern, duck call. Allen was a pioneer in the waterfowling field making calls, decoys, and bow-facing oars in the 19th century. After starting with an all-metal call, he switched to a wooden barrel in 1892. This example has his desirable deep lanyard groove design. Although Allen died in 1912, his wife continued to manufacture and sell his calls into the 1940s.\"

All told this is a great old call in superlative condition that would look great hanging off the wrist of a vintage L. C. Smith 12 gauge double! ! Please see my other listings for items which may interest you. Good luck!
