STAR WARS (1977) George Lucas. Starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher.
Offered hereis an original version vintage 16mm cinemascope print of one of the most sought aftertitles by film collectors worldwide. However, the item does have its fewnegative points and (mostly very) positive points.
Let’s start with the lesser qualities:It has largely faded to purple-brownish. Very mild base wear on the firstfew minutes of reel one and on that same reel, a tiny base line extreme rightedge of frame (barely noticeable) Reel two ends abruptly and is missing 30 secondsof the trash compactor scene. Specifically,2:19 to 2:50 in the following clip: https://youtu.be/7U3Oti2L8S4That’s it for the negative points!
Now for the positive points:As you see in the attached pics, bluesand greens are still significantly present and color actuallyimproves by reel three. This print had only one private owner and was played maybetwo orthree times in the last 35 years. Exceptfor the end of reel two, all head and tail leaders are uncut. After countdown onReel one it fades into the 20th Century Fox logo. The opening text crawl does NOT feature the words \"EpisodeIV A New Hope\". Reel three endswith the MPAA ‘‘PG’’ logo. Apart fromvery minor wear issues on Reel one, it is in near mint condition. Not shrunken. No pulled perfs. Sound is clear. No vinegar odor. It is an original anamorphicscope print requiring an anamorphic lens to project it in widescreen. I noticed no splices. (There might be one, maybe.) This print cameas part of a lot with a few hundred reels of film. There may be a chance themissing 30 seconds turns up in that pile which I have yet to go through. If Ifind it, I will send it to the high buyer at a later date, free of charge.
The attachedpics are of the actual print but were taken off of an RTI 16mm viewer-analyser thatuses gentle edge rollers and prism only, never touching the actual surface of the print. The pics were not taken off of a movie screen. The quality therefore does not represent the much better projected image. I didthis to avoid any chance of adding even very minor wear to it from my runningit through a projector. The sharpnessand color of the print is actually better than what you see in the pics. Icould not find any indication of what acetate stock it is on.
