this French made Powder Flask is as rare as hen`s teeth!

In 25 years of collecting I did not find another one...

This type of powder flask is called "gun stock" flask, as per Riling`s Powder Flask book page 413.

On this page several guns stock powder flasks are discussed.

Riling said that the only manufacturers that made these type of flasks were James Dixon & Sons and Frary Benham.

He was wrong !!! This excellent made gun stock flask has been made in France for 100% sure.

The quality is equal to the British and American made specimen.

The body is brass and the collar and charging unit have been made of nickel-silvered material.

The charger can be unscrewed and has a common (or outside) spring.

This unit is unmarked but shows a typical French nozzle. The nozzle has a 4 step graduated scale which is marked: 70 - 75 - 80 - 85 (decigrammes).

Statistics: the overall length included charger is 215mm (8.5 Inches) and the maximum width is 85 mm (3.3 Inches).

Condition: the quality of the embossing is very high! Much detail and similar to the British made examples.

The 2 Original suspension rings are present.

The body has some very minor dents (please see the zoomable pictures) - the seams are in very good order.

The top unscrews and the collar has all 3 original steel screws. The collar and all other nickel silvered parts have a smooth clean surface.

The spring is very strong and has approx. 70% of the fire blued finish. The thumb piece, cut off plate are working very well.

The nozzle has the original locking screw.

As I told you...this is a RARE one.

Most likely the only one that you will ever find...
