This is a superb and rare mother of pearl and abalone shell spectacles case etui dating to ca. 1850. Each side features stunning panels of iridescent mother of pearl framed by panels of striking abalone shell. The side surfaces have mother of pearl panels. The hinged lid with push-button closure is in good working order.
The case measures 5 5/8 in./14.3 cm in length, 1 1/2 in./3.8 cm in width and 1/2 in./1.3 cm in thickness. It weighs 38 grams.This extraordinary case is in very good condition as can be seen in the images. There is one mother of pearl piece missing from the top edge and part of the inner edge of the lid is missing. These items to not detract from the beauty of this unusual case.
