$15 Rubber drive belts do "work" but are a quick fix that puts unnecessary strain on the mechanism due to their "one size fits all" elasticity and hardening over time. This is why rubber drive belts are replaced every few years on turntables. Rubber was available during the entire production era of cylinder phonographs, AND ALL MANUFACTURERS USED LEATHER because it performed better and fit each machine to-measure. You can spend $13-$17 elsewhere for a rubber band, or do the job right (and maybe learn a new skill).
What makes this belt better than the others? Aside from being soft, pliable, and having just the right color, it has a sharp 90* edge which rides in phonograph pulleys nicely. It's smooth side is smooth. It's rough side is less smooth, not having excessive fiber or dust. It works straight and true. It has no lateral curvature AT-ALL. It is straight and beautifully mended on a high speed professional leather mending machine. I sourced this leather specifically for use on antique Cylinder phonographs, particularly Edisons. BUT, it helps those few underpowered Graphophones: The small double spring Type B "Eagle, and the single spring Type Q (and variants) run even better because the belt tracks the pulleys better, and requires less mechanical effort to perform its duty. I have created a video on YouTube which shows you the simple method for splicing (mending) the belt using simple glue, plyers, and a very sharp razor blade. Type in PHONOGRAPH LEATHER BELT and it should come up. Shown are machines which I have used the belt on. THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS sale (you wish!), but are used to show you how the belt is utilized. It is especially good on Class-M phonographs, which require a 7/32" wide belt for the governor shaft. This belt is approx 7/32" wide. PLEASE ASK ALL QUESTIONS, AND I WILL REPLY AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE.
Edison Triumph and Spring Motor models can use this 7/32" belt, but ideally use 5/16" belt which I sell in a different sale for Graphophone's.
YOU ARE PURCHASING BY THE FOOT. It is $4.99 for TWO FEET, plus calculated shipping. You can spend more elsewhere but you can not buy better. I do discount this drive belt when purchased in lengths of 5 feet, and 10 feet. Check my other sales for those lengths. I have changed the quantity to two feet as it seems more popular.
