THIS BOOK WILL SHOCK YOU!!!It is a relic of an era where racially inappropriate and insensitive products were widely available. We believe it serves as important tool for education about the past. And although we still have much room for improvements in race relations,JUST LOOK HOW FAR WE\'VE COME!!!The story follows as the Mulligan Guards as the Mulligan Guards march along. Losing one Guard on each page, until there are none, in \"Ten Little Indians\" fashion. This is no doubt inspired by the Edward Harrigan\'s successful series of Broadway shows about the Mulligan Guards, a fictionally inept Irish fraternal organization. There is a musical score that accompanies the story. Each page has a beautiful Chromolithographs that accompany the story, which are printed on one side of the page only. The penultimate guard to die isthe Black Manwho appears in every ILLUSTRATION but the last one. The book contains overtly racist content throughout.In summary, although the late nineteenth century is often referred to as the Golden Age of children\'s literature and it witnessed a profusion of books designed specifically for a young audience, such as Alice in Wonderland, Little Women, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, it represented only a portion of the literate youth in America. Publishedca. 1880, it is inPOOR CONDITIONunsurprising for its ageat135 YEARS OLD!!! This book measures 8 3/4\" X9 1/4\"and is contains 11 beautifully illustrated pages. It is missing the back cover and is mostly unbound. We have pictured every single page so you can see any and all imperfections. The pages are still clear, easy to read with nice bright illustrations. The corners of the cover are missing as seen in the picture below.
