This toothpick holder beginswith its ground of polished platinum iridescence over sparkling gold Favrileglass, giving it glancing hues of icy blues and jeweled purples most noticeableat its gently pinched sides and rolled rim. Inside the rim, a rich wash ofbuttery gold with purple and seafoam green tints is visible, giving the piece as a whole arefined and gentle appearance. The fluid platinum continues to the shoulderingof the pinched lobes, four in total, where it meets a riot of royal purple toward the basal rim. It is under this rim,at the polished pontil, that the piece is signed “L.C.T. Q3170”. The prefixQ dates this holder to 1902, per the “RegistryNumbers by Years” on page 56 of LouisC. Tiffany’s Glass – Bronzes – Lamps.
