Tiffany Studios Gold Favrile Art Glass Ashtray 1915 San Francisco Exposition NR:
$445.00

For your consideration, a goldFavrile glass ashtray with bronze collar, made by Tiffany Studios New York forthe 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, California. This ashtray, along with many of our other listings, is being offered at .

Clad in the masterwork iridescence forwhich Tiffany Studios was awarded at this exposition, the body of this ashtrayglimmers from all views in dancing daybreak hues of gold, orange, magenta, green, and icy blue. The gentle ribbing of its squat form serves to accentuatethe variations in color with the bronze collar reflecting chroma from the rosegold tones of the neck. Inside, a stunning shock of icy platinum is shown, alsopicking up warmer tones from the exterior to create a purple effect in certainlights. The ashtray is banded at its mouth by a bronze collar with affixedsmoker’s rest. It is under this collar, on the glass beneath, that the true paucityof the dish is found. Upon close inspection we have found what we believe to bea marking “EX” which denotes this as being created for an exposition, furthercredited by the signature on its underside “L.C. TIFFANY – FAVRILE 7725 J”.The suffix “J” is confirmed in the Tiffany Registry Numbers by Years (onpage 56 of Koch’s Louis C. Tiffany’sGlass – Bronzes – Lamps) as indicating it was produced in 1915, the sameyear of the Panama Pacific International Exposition.
