True Rarity-The Singer 15-210 Antique sewing machine,Sphinx/Indian Star,treadle :
$200.00

withextremely rare EARLY c. 1879 cast iron Treadle .

machine head serial #AG135293, manufacturedSeptember 30 1941 at Singer Elizabethport New Jersey Plant .

This machine with \" Indian star\" Singer decal # 29 has beenmanufactured in US for export andfurther sale in India. That is why \"Made in USA\" printed in 2 placeson the sleeve and below the Singer emblem. Each of the 8 points star has word \"Singer\" written ina different Indian languages. These languages are located clockwise from theposition of 1 o\'clock : Onya,Singhalese, Gujarati, Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam(Tamil) and Urdu. Those machines intended for sale only in the regions known today as Kashmir, Bangladesh and Pakistanhad a different Star variation where \"Singer\" has been written inUrdu language only on all of the points of the star. How this particular machine head appeared back in USA 74 years later and being in such wonderful condition would remain amystery ...It could be that it has never made out of United States .

The Industrial/Familyheavy duty sewing machine Class 15 has been introduced in 1879 and holds the honorto be the longest (135 years !) continuously manufacturing sewing machine inthe history . This model also has a dubious distinction to be one of the mostcopied sewing machine. In 1970 I have witnessed myself the mass manufacturingof Class 15 PMZ at the former Singer Podolsk Mechanical Zavod (factory) inRussia. This plant has been built there by Singer SMC in 1902 withthe intention to supply sewing machines to the entire Russian market and also TheBalkan states, Turkey, Iran, Japan and China. Well, so little did they knew -after that infamous Russian revolution Singer huge factory there has been basicallyexpropriated . After WWII a lot ofcopies of this truly wonderful machine has been made in Russia, Japan and later in China. And even now they are still being produced inIndia. The Treadle and hand crank versions ! If that facts are not a testimonyof this machine reliability ...than nothing could be.

The Early models had the plain polished steel face plate, noreverse feed dog movement and no feed dog drop for quilting. It has all steel construction and the heavy duty vertically oscillating CB(CentralBobbin) shuttle hook and race assembly . Very similar to one that still being utilized by high speed industrial sewingmachines for variety of industrial operations ranging from straight stitch to bartacking. The vertical bobbin offers more direct path for bobbinthread to be drawn up and as the result these machines are by very far better suited for heavier thread. Thehinged pressure foot clearance is 3/8” in combination with large and heavycounterweight and mentioned above all steel construction allows to sew veryeasily heavy layers of denim, canvas, belts and numerous layers of light leather.Just look at the photos # 2,3,5 attached to see how this machine goes thoughthe heavy padded 4 x folded vinyl ..It goes through the leather belt too.

On this machine I have tried 4 layers of 800 denierPolyester belt that 1/4\" thick ,10 layers of very heavy denim,6 layers ofheavy padded vinyl , etc... I do not think that you could be dissatisfied withwhat this machine could sew but If there is still a remote chance of that and you would need even more power than this machineeffortlessly provides, then buy my 31-15 machine featured on E-bay or considerto buy the top of the line walking foot-needle fed-heavy duty industrialmachine. The model15 is one of four the most desirable vintage Singers sewing machines :

1. The featherweight 221 !!! 2. 201-2 3. 15-91 4.15 Anotherhistorical fact worth to mention: with the Class 15 Singer introduced a newdesign of needle: It is flat on one side of the shank - 15x1. This designbecame the standard needle used not just for most future Singer domesticmachines and also by almost all other sewing machines manufacturers. Thesame needle design also known in modern needles classification system as \"2020\".

This machine is the full size, heavy-duty and has the high-qualitystitching and highly reliable.

Here is a quick comparisonof this Model 15-210 to 15-91 & 201-2 :15-91 & 201-2 both have direct gear drive motors whichtransfer the rotating motion to the hand wheel through the fiber gear without belt. This 15-210 ( same as 15-86) is the treadle belt drivenbut there is the arrangement for motor tobe attached - then it would become 15-211 . But to be honest -it is not needed . The treadle generates rotatingmotion of extremely large 6\" and heavy 2 3/4 LBS (see pic) hand wheel and could provide thesimilar to motor speed and what is most important - allows to sew much easier veryheavy fabrics and leather .

The Early Singer circa 1879 cast iron treadle is equallyas beautiful as it is rare ! It is not a common Singer treadle ! Together with the meticulously restored cabinet , burled wood coffincover with functional lock and key, extension board with support brackets and sliding drawer this treadle cabinetis THE RARE antique item on it\'s own right and even if it is 61 years olderthan the machine head - they are perfect match as far as functionality andaestheticappearance concerns ! Iam not hesitating to say this word when I am talking about this machine - Stunning !

Themachineitself is in almost mint condition. The Decal combination of Sphinx and Indian Star isindeed EXTREMELY RARE. Justlook at the pictures provided. Despite of the obvious fact that my skill as a photographerseems to be degrading rapidly within last couple of years and that does not help atall to display this machine in the best way -the machine still looks gorgeous. The actual appearance of this machine , treadle and cabinetin real life is much better than on the pics attached . The decline of my eyesight began 2.5 years ago but do not worry - I am in the possession of this machine fora lot longer period of time when I could see very well.

In this particular case you can neglect a perception that it is a typical sales pitch - this machine actual appearance ,quality of cabinet restoration , treadle and machine\'s technical services Ihave provided has been done when I was atmy best .

Again , this one of the rarest machine with rare and beautiful cabinet indeed forms stunning exquisite ensemble ! Andremember - it sews very heavy (and thin) materials extremely well !

Forgetto mention : it comes with Oak puzzlebox with all imaginable vintage Singer attachments .

Description of Services provided : Allsteel parts : both slide and needle plate, Floral face & side coversplates, tension adjustment mechanism , stop motion knob , stitch length adjustment knob and all even the smallest screws all are shining like a brand new ones and all in the excellent condition ! Themachine has been tested to sew both thin and multiple layers of heavy fabrics and guaranteed to function very well .

About Myself : I am a retired textile engineer and sewing & Knitting machines has been a part of my job. My background in mechanical engineering combined with some nostalgia, passion and plenty of time on my hands has made the great implication on my current activities – Antique and vintage sewing machine restoration.Over the years I have bought, repaired, serviced and refurbished dozens of machines just for myself and for friends , but now when I am running out of space to store them in accordance with their status, I have decided to begin to offer to you these marvels of old engineering at reasonable price .

MY PROCESS

In order to retain the authenticity of original time-honored design and those fine details which once embellished the antique sewing machines I am trying to avoid(unless it is verynecessarydue to extremely neglected condition) repainting of machine metal parts , steel legs and treadles.Hereis the brief description of my process: If required, I am soaking all moving parts in WD-40 to get rid of that stubborn solidified whale oil, clean surface with Murphy’s oil soap, high speed polish chrome plated parts and apply a thin coat of a mixture of Boiled linseed oil & turpentine on the originally painted parts and re-assemble machine. The gear driven machines are being properly cleaned, greased and oiled, the timing is being checked , bobbin case or shuttle are being taken apart, cleaned and oiled for smooth thread draw, stitch adjusted to be equal on both sides. If appropriate for that particular model/class, machine is being tested to sew at slow and fast speeds and in reverse on numerous layers of denim to assure it is sewing with ease. For machines with motor /light /foot pedal control the following steps are being taken to assure that machine is electrically safe to operate: the motor, pedal, light wires, are inspected for electrical safety and replaced (if necessary) from the coils to the connector. The foot pedals are being cleaned and adjusted for smooth speed control. The machines I offer for sale are electrically safe and fully guaranteed to sew very well. Please feel free to ask any questions.
