A super fine and extremely large rare old Alaskan Eskimo Yupik pictorial basket dating from the early 1900\'s. The basket is very finely woven from natural beach and rye grasses , the striking colored patterns in red and green dyed grasses to produce the stunning design featuring linked diamond patterns that encircle the entire basket and lid. Note the unusual shape with a tall wide barrel shape . The basket stands an impressive 14\" tall with a max 11 1/2\" in diameter and is in very good condition for its age with no damages or repairs noted, some minor scattered stitch wear as expected with great age and use.The basket has that great aged patina that one loves to see in early basketry. These are the kind of old Ethnographic intact specimens that I really love.This is an excellent stunning finely woven masterpiece.
