VINTAGE 1933 GENERAL ELECTRIC (GE) MODEL K-64 CATHEDRAL

BROADCAST AND SHORTWAVE TUBE RADIO

This radio has a very elegant design and is very hard to find, especially in this condition.

The General Electric (GE) model K-64 is a two band 6-tube cathedral radio covering standard broadcast from 540-1500kc and shortwave from 5.4-15mc. It has similar styling and uses the same chassis as the RCA Model 121, which GE manufactured for RCA. It was introduced in late-1933/early-1934.

Tube complement as follows :

58 (RF amp), 2A7 (LO/mixer), 58 (IF amp), 2B7 (2nd det/AVC/1st
AF), 2A5 (AF power pentode) and 80 (rectifier).

About the Cabinet

The wood cabinet has been stripped, lightly sanded, grain has been sealed and toner lacquered to it\'s original shading, then a minimum of 8 coats of clear lacquer with light sanding every 3rd coat. Finally it is sanded with 800/1000 grit silicone caroffere sand paper and hand rubbed to a satin luster with several pumice compounds.Complete refinishing process takes 3 weeks to complete. Knobs are original and in like new condition, felt washers have been installed behind the knobs to prevent scratching the finish. Grille cloth is a new exact replica replacement, installed on a new backer board. Dial bezel is in excellent condition and has been cleaned but not polished. The handle o n top of the cabinet is original and in good condition, may have been designed to carry the radio, but I would suggest lifting from the base.

The radio measures 14 1/2\" wide, stands 17\" tall and 10 1/2\" deep .

About the Radio

The electronics have been thoroughly gone through. Tubes replaced as needed, all filter, coupling and bypass capacitors have been replaced, the power cord is a new cloth covered replica with original plug, tuning mechanism has been cleaned and lubricated for smooth operation. Tuning features a coarse and fine tuning knob. Band switch (last knob on right) is a push pull switch. Dial scale is clean and in good legible condition. Volume control, tone control and power switch have been cleaned and function smoothly. This radio has been aligned for maximum sensitivity and receives many stations on both shortwave and broadcast bands with a short length of wire, a longer wire antenna could be used if you prefer greater distance of reception. A 10 foot length of Beldin Indoor Arial wire has been included. Speaker is original and in excellent working condition with good sound quality. The speaker wires going to the chassis have been replaced with new cloth covered wires to maintain original appearance.

This radio will be securely packaged to insure it will be received in the same condition it was sent.

I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking.
