DescriptionHat lovers in search of the finest vintage fedoras prize the name of Borsalino. The Antica Casa (Original House) of Borsalino was founded in Alessandria, Italy, in 1857, and has been known ever since for the superior quality of its fur felt hats.
       Look at this luxury fedora, for example: it started out life at the Borsalino factory maybe sixty years ago, resplendently created in deliciously soft, super-lightweight fur felt, as luxuriously soft and malleable as kidskin suede and so light that you may forget you\'re wearing it. This may be one of Borsalino\'s packable hats that originally came folded up in a little triangular box, as it has no inside lining and the sweatband is of fabric rather than leather. If you want to try rolling it up again, go ahead!
       It\'s a beautiful hat, rendered in a handsome shade of sand tan, accented with a matching 3/4\" grosgrain ribbon hatband. The pinch-front crown stands 4 1/4\" tall when bashed as shown—the felt is so lightweight that you can bash it any way you like—and the brim measures 2 5/8\", finished in a smoothly rounded raw edge.
       In place of an interior lining, the Borsalino script is silkscreened on the inside of the crown. The tan fabric sweatband is gold-embossed with the usual Borsalino imprint (Antica Casa Fondata Nel 1857) and the name of the original retailer, Dani of Livorno, which is a port city on the western coast of Tuscany, Italy, close to the top end of the boot, not far from Florence and just down the road from Pisa.
       Size: The data label is still present under the lining, bearing the words CONDOR and ERGOSCA as well as the size designation, 4 1/2. That\'s the Punti equivalent of the US hat size 7; however, the interior circumference is 22 1/4\", which means you can even try it as a size 7 1/8. Run a cloth tape measure around your head to be sure.
       Condition: Good used condition, with no holes or moth bites in the felt. Minor signs of age and use, such as some light moisture markings on the hatband.
