This \"Houghton\" \"Empress\" camera is in \"as found\" condition and has not been repaired or restored.The camera has a brass plaque to the front with \"Empress, H. Ltd., London\" and an ivorine plaque with \"British Made, Ensign Trademark\". There are no holes or splits to the tapered black leather bellows, however, there are some marks and scratches and a little fading to the edges and corners.The ground glass plate measures 6 1/2 inches by 4 3/4 inches and is free from any chips or cracks. There are no splits or cracks to the mahogany that I can find and the brass work appears to be present, in working order, it has also retained much of its\' original lacquer coating. Camera.

This lovely \"Houghton\" \"Empress\" camera is in \"as found\" condition and has not been repaired or restored.

In 1836 George Houghton went into business with a Frenchman Antoine Claudet. The new company made various types of glass including optical glass as well as photographic materials. The company expanded increasing its range of photographic products in 1904 George Houghton and Son became a limited company and Houghton\'s Limited was formed.
 By 1908 their factory at Walthamstow was the biggest camera producing plant in Great Britain, employing over 700.  

The camera has an applied brass plaque to the front with \"Empress, H. Ltd., London\"  and an ivorine plaque to the side with \"British Made, Ensign Trademark\". 

There are no holes or splits to the tapered black leather bellows, however, there are some marks and scratches as well as a little fading to the edges and corners.

The ground glass plate measures 6 1/2 inches by 4 3/4 inches, I believe this is 1/2 plate size and is free from any chips or cracks. 

There are no splits or cracks to the mahogany that I can find and all of the brass work appears to be present and is in working order, it has also retained much of its\' original lacquer coating. 
  The leather handle is well attached and sturdy.
The camera is fitted with a \"Thornton-Pickard\" Shutter, this does not appear to work, and an \"Ensign Symmetrical, F-8 Lens\"  

The camera extends as it should and folds away fine, I have tried to show this in the photographs.
