This charming \"J . F. Shew and Co. The XIT Patent\" camera is in original \"as found\" condition and has not been restored or repaired.One of the lesser known view camera styles is the \"side-strut\" body pattern. Shew cameras are the embodiment of this design.Side-strut cameras could be folded into a very thin form that easily fit into a waistcoat/vest or coat pocket. There are no holes or splits to the plum coloured leather bellows, however, there is a little colour loss along the edges of the folds and corners. The ground glass plate and holder are missing from the back.The wooden body is free from any major splits or cracks, however, it does have the usual scuffs and scratches you would expect from an item of this age. All of the brass work appears to be present without any damage.The camera extends smoothly and all of the other slides and hinges work well. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs.The camera folds down as it should.The camera is fitted with a \"Bausch & Lomb\" shutter, this appears to be partly orking, . The makers Ivorine plate a reads \"Shew, London, The XIT\".The wood has gained a lovely depth of colour and patina that only comes with age and years of use. This charming \"J . F. Shew and Co. The XIT Patent\" camera is in original \"as found\" condition and has not been restored or repaired.

One of the lesser known view camera styles is the \"side-strut\" body pattern. Shew cameras are the embodiment of this design.
Side-strut cameras could be folded into a very thin form that easily fit into a waistcoat/vest or coat pocket.
