This delightful \"Rowntree\'s Gum Pastilles\" box is in \"as found\" condition and has not been repaired or restored.The box is made from pine with an original label to front and interior of lid. They are a little faded and stained but still delightful, the internal label still has a fair depth of colour. There is also a paper product label to one side.The lid is still well attached with its original wire hinges, the lid does have a slight bow.The wood has taken on a super depth of colour and patina over the years and has the usual marks, scuffs and scratches you would associate with well used items of this age and a previous owner has placed their name to it; it all adds to the character and charm.It measures 24 cm (9 1/2 inches) long and is 16.5 cm (6 1/42 inches) wide. It is 6 cm (2 1/2 inches) deep. This delightful \"Rowntree\'s Gum Pastilles\" box is in \"as found\" condition and has not been repaired or restored.
It would have been used to transport \"Rowntree\'s Gum Pastilles\" to the shop keeper and then used to display the wares.

Rowntree\'s was founded in York in 1862 by Henry Isaac Rowntree, who bought a chocolate company from the Tuke family. The original factory was in the centre of the City of York. The gums were first introduced in 1893, and originally marketed as Rowntree\'s Clear Gums - \"The nation\'s favourite sweet\" - and were available in twopenny tubes and sixpenny packets. Rowntree\'s was bought by Nestle in 1988, many of the original brands survive today.

This will make a great small storage box for any part of the house.
